    Telstra TVC stills.

    Nobody likes a slow photographer.

Shooting stills on a TVC production has its challenges. The first being that the TV crew are pretty much always under time pressure. So there is no time at all for someone fussing about, holding everyone up while they capture that one frame. The thing is it is the one frame for an outdoor or digital campaign, so it is actually quite important.

So you have to be quick. You need to know where to be that won't get in the way. Choose your moments to run in and get your stuff. And have the right gear so you can work in the often low light that works for cinematography, not so much for stills.

Sometimes you can work shooting off to one side of the motion camera, other times you need the talent looking down the barrel, so you have to get that between lens changes.

Over the years, I have been lucky enough to shoot stills on several Telstra TVCs. This is a bit of a sampler of the images captured.
